还记得那些岁月、那些花儿、那些诗歌

Posted in Uncategorized on June 21, 2006 by edwinconan

Auto Salon

Posted in Uncategorized on June 20, 2006 by edwinconan

I only know there is Melbourne International Motor Show in the Exhibition Center at the beginning of the year, and it is the biggest motor show in the Southern Hemisphere. I don’t know in the same place there is an Auto Salon in April. The Auto Saloon only displays modified cars. Anyone who watched the program on MTV called “Pimp My Ride” will understand that those cars in Auto Saloon are all “pimped”.

These years, with the R&B and Hip hop culture become more and more popular in young people all around the world, more young guys start to follow their rap stars and modify their cars to make it more beautiful and powerful. Although they are not as rich as a rapper who can afford several Bentley luxury cars or SUVs and modify them, they really go crazy on hot up their own Nissan Skylines or Toyota Supras. The majority of those cars exhibited are Japanese cars, or we call them Import Tuners. Very few cars are Australian made Ford or Holden, European cars are even less. The mean reason of that is a stock Japanese car is much cheaper than any other car and there are more options and parts to choose for upgrading.

Because the strong culture relationship of Hip hop music, rappers, girls and pimped rides, there was a live rap show in the evening, the big speakers and sub woofers kept pumping out loud hiphop music throughout the day and sexy girls posed on the car for photographers. Sometimes this culture also includes drugs, gambling and those kinds of negative words. But anyway, these cars are really interesting.

Photo cars in the streets

Cars are everywhere. The streets are full of cars. The freeways are jammed by cars. But those are all ordinary cars, they are so normal that you won’t even notice them. What about those unique cars, those beautiful, fashionable, sexy eye-catching cars? Where are they?

I wandered in the streets with my eyes open widely and my digital camera in hand, tried my best to find those fashionable shape, sexy figures and gorgeous outlines.

Make My Mythos

Make My Mythos

What is Mythos? Mythos is myth. Yes, but it is also the name of a Ferrari concept car designed by the iconic Italian car body designer Pininfarina in 1989.

37 years ago Enzo Ferrari asked his good friend “Pinin”Farina to give his cars “image” and a definite marque identity. In 1989, Pininfarina is still doing it. The Mythos, a prototype show car based on the 12-cylinder Testarossa, tends to return to the basic fascination of the two-seater “barchetta” style, yet breaking from the traditional automobile styling. It is therefore very compact, decidedly sporty, and extremely Spartan. The bodywork for this beautifully sculptured speedster is entirely fabricated from carbon fiber composites. The tubular steel frame, taken from the Testarossa, has been further reinforced for the added rigidity required in a speedster. Although the mythos retains the wheelbase of the Testarossa, Its overall length is more compact due to the shortened rear overhang. To smoothly blend the narrow front and wide rear sections, large side ducting for the radiator is employed. The mythos has two aerodynamic adjustable devices. A rear wing can be raised and angled, while the front lip spoiler can be altered as speed increases. The combined effect of these two aerodynamic devices reduces the front and rear rise to obtain better traction during high speed cruise. The interior has been kept simple, reflecting a true racing spirit. Everything is rounded, symmetrical and tastefully finished in fine grain red leather. The Pininfarina Mythos is a true “Dream Car” and fantastic work of art.

This time I spent $45 to buy the model kit and $60 to buy the spray paints and glue from the hobby shop and built the model Mythos at home. I know I spent a lot of money, but, it’s my hobby, I have been making models since I was 7. My works includes sports cars, military aircrafts, ships, submarine, tanks, but mostly are the first two. Making model is a fun process, you will met many unexpected problems and have to solve them. In the end, the sense of accomplishment is just no word can describe.

I feel the need for speed!

Posted in Uncategorized on June 20, 2006 by edwinconan

Just like everyone else, I love to play game. But, different from others, I only play one game: Need For Speed. It was a coincidence, many many years ago, one day, I suddenly found there is a CD case in my drawer, that was Need for Speed 2, I don’t know where it come from, but from the cover I can tell that this is a game about cars. Later after I install it and play around, I found this is amazing. Although at that time, the computer was slow(only Pentium, there was no Pentium II or III at that time), the 3D technology was not very realistic, the game still excited me with its detail introductions of every supercar in it, the ingenious circuits and the great feeling of speed. Suddenly, I realized, I fell in love with Need For Speed. Now I have the full collection of Need For Speed serial, including Need For Speed, Need For Speed II, Need For Speed III Hot Pursuit, Need For Speed IV High Stakes, Need For Speed Porsche Unleashed, Need For Speed Hot Pursuit II, Need For Speed Underground, Need For Speed Underground II and Need For Speed Most Wanted.

The latest volume is Need For Speed Most Wanted, which is the one I am playing currently. In the game you become a street racer who drives a BMW M3 GTR and one day you drove into a city called Rockport and met a gorgeous girl called Mia, she introduced you to Rockport. At the same time, you found Mia is also a street racer and a member of street racing gang in Rockport. One guy from the gang asked you for a race, because you were not familiar with the streets of Rockport, you lost the race and also your beloved ride. After that you knew from Mia that there is a Blacklist in Rockport Police which lists 15 most dangerous street racer in Rockport and the guy who took your ride is on the top of the blacklist, his name is Razor. Mia told you if you want your BMW back, you have to defeat Razor and become the blacklist 1. Then you started your career as a street racer in Rockport and work yourself to the top of that blacklist. In the career you will defeat all the 15 racers on the list and will be involved in innumerable pursuits with dozens of police cars. Your lost BMW became your most wanted car and you became the driver the Rockport Police most wanted.

The interesting part of the game is not just your street racer life, but also the cars. There are a lot of cars available in the game from low level low performance normal cars to high level high performance super cars. And the best bit is you can change the appearance of your ride by changing the bodywork, the rims, the wing, the hood and the colour. Also you can upgrade your ride’s performance just like Need For Speed Underground I &II. I especially like to make my cars look powerful yet not very eye-catching and colourful, it’s my style, very low-keyed.

Currently I am the Blacklist 2. I am nearly there, I can see the tail of my BMW M3 GTR. Haha.
